This year's Sugar Plum Fairy and Cavalier
Delta Festival Ballet is proud to announce our stars for the 2014 Nutcracker Ballet season. Laura Gilbreath Tisserand will be dancing the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy and her husband and dance partner Jerome Tisserand will be dancing the role of her Cavalier.
Performances will be on Dec. 19 at 7 PM and on December 20 and 21 at 2 PM. All performances will be at Dixon Hall on the Tulane campus. Tickets to the performance will be on sale beginning on November 3 and can be purchased online on this website or by calling our office at 504-888-0931.
Laura Gilbreath Tisserand is a native of Hammond Louisiana. She began her ballet training with Phoebe Brantley in Baton Rouge and furthered her studies at the Giacobbe Academy of Dance in New Orleans, later winning scholarships at the School of American Ballet and Pacific Northwest Ballet School. She joined Pacific Northwest Ballet as an apprentice in 2003, was promoted to the corps de ballet in 2004, soloist in 2010, and in 2014 was named a principal dancer.
She has performed as a guest artist with Lafayette Ballet Theatre, New Orleans Ballet Theatre, Richmond Academy of Dance and Long Beach Ballet. This is her first appearance as a professional dancer with Delta Festival Ballet.
Laura has danced leading roles in numerous Balanchine ballets as well as works by Jiri Kylian, Roland Hynd, Mark Morris, Alexei Ratmansky, Jerome Robbins, Christopher Wheeldon, and the three classic Tchaikovsky ballets, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, and Swan Lake. She originated leading roles in Benjamin Millepied's Three Movements and Christopher Wheeldon's Tide Harmonic.
Jerome Tisserand was born in Lyon, France and was trained at the Paris Opera Ballet School, with Pascale Courdioux in Lyon, and at the School of American Ballet. He joined the Miami City Ballet as an apprentice in 2006 and the Pacific Northwest Ballet corps de ballet in 2007. In 2012 he became a soloist and was promoted to principal dancer in 2014.
Mr. Tisserand won second prize at the 2003 Dance Festival of Artists in Nyon, Switzerland and first prize in the 2004 Prix Carpeaux in Valenciennes, France. He has assumed leading roles in ballets by George Balanchine, David Dawson, Ulysses Dove, Peter Boal in Giselle, William Forsythe, Jiri Kylian, Ronald Hynd in The Sleeping Beauty, Mark Morris, Alex Ratmansky, Jerome Robbins, Christopher Wheeldon, Benjamin Millepied, and Twyla Tharp.
He has appeared as a guest artist with the Allegheny Ballet Company, New Orleans Ballet Theatre, and Long Beach Ballet. This is his first appearance with Delta Festival Ballet.
